Frank West Morrison, a partner in the law firm of Phillips, Morrison and Ferrell, LLP, is seeking to employ an associate family law attorney. The associate attorney hired for this position will work directly with Mr. Morrison, assisting him with his family law practice, and will be expected and encouraged to grow his/her own practice under Mr. Morrison’s guidance. The associate attorney must be an active member of the Virginia State Bar with a minimum of three to five years experience in family law. Experience as a Guardian ad Litem in family law is desired.

Mr. Morrison has built up over the years a highly successful family law practice in the Lynchburg area and throughout the state of Virginia. Based on his performance and his statewide reputation as a family law attorney, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006, presented by the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section. Mr. Morrison has also been recognized in Virginia Super Lawyers and Virginia Legal Elite publications for a number of years. His service to the bar includes Chair of the Joint Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution, President of the Lynchburg Bar Association, Chair of the Family Law Section of Lynchburg, Virginia, Chair of the Board of Governors Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar, and Chair of the Domestic Relations Counsel of the Virginia Bar Association. Since 2004, Mr. Morrison has served as an adjunct professor at Washington & Lee University School of Law where he teaches the negotiation and conflict resolution skills practicums.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Timely and effective communication with clients, witnesses, other attorneys, and the court system
  • Interview clients and witnesses
  • Represent clients in the negotiation process
  • Represent clients in trial preparation and during trial
  • Prepare legal documents
  • Conduct legal research
  • Draft pleadings and other legal documents
  • Organize and manage case files
  • Draft, organize, and summarize discovery documents
  • Draft briefs and memoranda of law
  • Manage deadlines and case priorities
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all attorney-client communications
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of billable hours

Starting Salary: negotiable based on skills set and experience; employment benefits include medical and retirement
